I headed up to the trails after work to ski a bit. The snow was well packed and very fast. With the predicted mixed precipitation coming, it seemed like a good idea to run the groomer over the trails to smooth things out and solidify the base. When that was done, the nearly full moon was lighting the terrain, so I decided to do a little more skiing. I stuck to the field trail at first, then decided to head up Mill Street Extension to Main Street, which has excellent two-track conditions and trends slightly down hill over to Cabin Lane. With bright moonlight filtered through the trees, the skis glided effortlessly on the well packed trail, as if the trail was conveying me through the cold, brilliant evening.

The moon is full this Wednesday, then again on Friday, February 18. Normally, the trails are closed at dusk, but on those special moonlit nights, I encourage members to experience the beauty of a little night skiing.

See you O.N. the snow, Mike.
